CNA 8th Scientific Conference

A successful 8th Scientific Conference and 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Cameroon Nurses Association as well as celebration of 200 years of the birth of Florence Nightingale took place on the 26th and 27th February 2021 in the Regional Fund for Health Promotion Hall Bamenda.

In his opening remarks the President of the Cameroon Nurses Association welcomed all and enumerated all the achievements of the association since its creation in 2001. This included yearly in-country conferences rotating in the regions and out of country workshops attended by some members of the association as well as heading the African Health Professional Regional Regulatory Collaborative for West and Central African Project on improving the capacity of nurses on midwives on option B+ and regulatory framework.

There were scientific presentations in Clinical Nursing, Administrative Nursing, Educational Nursing and Public Health. Key speakers included Prof. Mary Bi Atanga, (honourable speaker) Dr./Mrs. Njini Rose, (CNA Deputy President) Mr. Atongno Humphrey, (Chair of the Scientific Committee) Dr. Glen Mbah Afungehwi (Member of the Scientific Committee).

There were scientific presentations by Ndong Eunice from Lacquintine Hospital Douala, Yong Blessing and Takwe Boniface both from Nkwen Baptist Hospital among others.

Educational establishments represented during the CNA 2021 Bamenda conference were:

  • –  Biaka University Institute Buea (BUIB)
  • –  Maflekumen Higher Institute, Tiko
  • –  Alpha Higher Institute of Douala (AHID)
  • –  Florence Nightingale Higher Institute of Health Biomedical Sciences Bamenda

There was the visit of various stands by the national CNA national executive, the presenters and members in attendance.

Awards were given to some members of the association who distinguished themselves in the activities of nursing in Cameroon as well as in the association. These included:

Professor Mary Bi Atanga Mr. Nkwain Joseph
Mr. Che George Wenong Mr. Mofor Moses

– First Professor in Nursing in Cameroon
– Most dedicated member in the leadership of CNA
– Most committed member from 2001-2021
– Most active branch President in terms of registration

of members

Awards were equally given to some best nurses in selected hospitals for 2021 as follows:

The conference ended and a report was sent to the Minster of Public Health as well as the 20th Anniversary Magazine.
